A pressure tank also gives you instant access to well water, without the need to manually turn on the pump. Moreover, it allows you to draw well water without the pump cycling on and off each time. This reduces stress on the pump and prolongs its lifespan.
Pressure tanks, which also act as reservoirs for the home, are generally set to keep pressure within 20 pounds per square inch (PSI) of your starting and stopping parameters. Most households have a pressure of 20 PSI to 40 PSI. If the pressure drops below 20 PSI, the pump kicks on and brings the pressure back to 40 PSI before cutting off again.
